The bard/rogue/fighter build is focused purely on using all of your action economy to shove as many crossbow bolts as humanly possible down the enemy's throat. The fighter levels are nice for action surge, sure, but the big bonus is the archery fighting style helping you offset sharpshooter's penalty.
