I think they refer to a specific Vulpaphyla mod- Martyr Symbiosis which kills the pet and heals you for 20% of your Health if you drop below 10% of it. Then the Devolution mods, fox turns into a larva on death and attacks (attack dependent on Vulpa) and 30s later respawns the pet.
