Horizon Walker more than any other Ranger is what makes me lament the loss of Shield on Forge Cleric; it'd have been an excellent boon to this build. Any type of Wizard would give you access to stuff like Shield and Find Familiar, as well as Arcane Recovery to stretch out your low level spell slot stamina throughout an adventuring day.

The Horizon Walker is a close-range class, so melee is probably better damage-wise. Sword and board is the way to go IMO with dueling as it is the best mix of defense and offense.
