So far I've only made a Vampiric Dagger, which is most likely the easiest one to acquire because of both its high-damage weapon skills and its substantially lower Thirst requirement. I can only imagine that the Vampiric Mace takes the longest to unlock due to its somewhat slow attack speed for its damage ... Best starting weapon for mage. Quarterstaff. 1 hand sword or mace. The only problem with mace is later in the game when you absorb an element it's from something that has resistance against that element.
